Money Workshop - Aftermath

On Sunday 11th May, it was for us the moment of truth. We were running our money workshop which we have been working on in the past four months. We arrived in the room provided by the church, after few adjustments, hoovering and decorating with beautiful fabrics made by our dear Zina. We were ready.
People one by one are arrived with food to share, smiling at the prospect of this day. We are in total 13 and ready to kick start. It is 11 am.

The energy in the room is highly positive. We can feel it all around us. As we go through the exercise, we can sense some emotions. A plethora of possibilities to change our relationships with money, make our investments more ethical, achieve a more balanced life with less money or working fewer hours are explored. We are then confronted to our 'barriers to change', the 'should's' that we've learnt when we were younger to earn more money, to never get into debts, to take responsibilities for our choice and not asking others for help and we set ourselves some actions to change our mindsets and get the power back over our lives.

At the end of the workshop, an evaluation form was distributed to find out the extent to which individuals were committed to change aspects of their life and how the workshop contributed positively in encouraging them to take further steps. Having analysed the results, we were pleased to see the workshop had a positive impacts on participants as they indicated to be more committed after having the workshop to be closer to their community by being both 'borrower' and lender, get an ethical insurance and telephone provider as such.

It was a beautiful experience. We hope to repeat such workshop as our participants seem to have benefited from it.

Which support?

My main purpose is to make the invisible visible: the talents, stories, passion and majesty of all the people that I meet.  I do this under the umbrella of Lightseekers for community arts projects and start-ups, Transition Leicester for environmental projects, Leicester Fixers for projects supporting repair. Depending on the focus of your project, I'll support you through planning and project delivery (Inc. Research, event management, curation, marketing and communication and more) - mentorship, training and consultancy as well as bid writing and fundraising + advertising opportunities. I have several packages for support with a first hour discussing your vision and what you are looking to achieve for free. Contact me via social media  and send me your email address with an idea of the projects you are looking to develop. I will then send you a list of all the offerings accordingly.

Ph.D Research - Can you make yourself irreplaceable?

A while ago, I had dinner with this lovely young eastern European woman. It was our first encounter. She has been living in the UK for only two weeks. she had already a job and an accommodation. We started talking about our academic achievement. She mentioned that she had a master in digital literature. I suggested that she could possibly do her Ph.D at the University of Reading. She shrugged and said  'I have been working as a research administrator in a university for two years. I was the one who convinced students not to do their Ph.D.  Ph.D students slave themselves away for three years of their life. They carry out valuable research, write papers and go to conference, yet they are underpaid and they will probably not get a job at the end of it. Academia is an industry where Ph.D are a herd being truthfully exploited.' It was partially true. I started my Ph.D to escape the dogma of some other mainstream form of exploitation I wanted to be my own project. Academ...

In the search of who we are - Have a wonderful year 2015

Steven Spielberg and Cyril Cusack are having a conversation at a New Year's eve party. An anonymous is sitting next to them.  Spielberg starts: ' All of us every single year, we're a different person. I don't think we're the same person all our lives ' .  'Indeed' replied Cyril Cusack 'i f you ask me for my New Year Resolution, it will be to find out who I am.'   That being said the anonymous declares:  'I wish you to not try to find who you are. The search is like following a shadow in the grey, you will never catch it. So just be - the light erasing any shadow of doubts in your mind. Be the sun painting new landscapes of beauty and adventures, be the moon sculpting your dreams and highest aspirations.'   Happy New Year
