SUCCESS is A TEAM EFFORT

Reading Anna Wintour harsh advice for fashion students resonated with me (click here for full article). I have been working with Sandrine Nyota for now two months. Interestingly, the young designer follow unconsciously to the letter Anna Wintour advices and I think they are worth following:

STARTING YOUR OWN LINE DOESN’T GUARANTEE SUCCESS
Ultimately, this apply to anyone who want to start their own business. Although I will say, success can only be determined by the individual in the driving seat as success for some is different for others. It remains supporting other successes by working for another designer or company can be extremely rewarding as we learn the importance of having a team around us to achieve greater high. Indeed there is not just one road.

FOR GOD’S SAKE, FIND SOME GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT
Getting a job is just so much more than covering the end of the month, it is also about developing relationships by helping others. At the end, it is a gain rater than a loss, so get a grip and search for one!

Spending tremendous amount of money to showcase products and services without having a clear understanding of your audience and competition is extremely stupid. It is better to start small and ensure that you are getting some sales before making it a show! so please, DON’T FORK OUT THOUSANDS ON A RUNWAY SHOW

DON’T BE SHY... BUT DON’T BE AN INSTAGRAM EXHIBITIONIST
I think that say it all. You have to be confident  when sharing your vision, goals and objectives but you do not have to let everyone know about the details of your life. there is nothing worse to know the end of the book when you haven't even started yet the first chapter.

BUDDY UP FOR THE SAKE OF BUSINESS
If you are not good with numbers, buddy up to have someone to look in details at those. if you are not really good at marketing, buddy up with someone who is good at it. Put your ego on the side and delegate to those who have the most skills to ensure you will not trip over. They will never be able to copy your arts and you will never be able to read number the way they do so collaborate

Overall, what we can take from this is SUCCESS is A TEAM EFFORT not an INDIVIDUAL ONE

Blacklist

It may be time to create a blacklist of companies to avoid and definitely refuse to  work for: - Those which are more than 3 miles than my home - Those which does not allow me to work from home - Those which does not allow me to work fewer hours - Those which pollute with no sorry - Those with negative employee reviews - Those which do not design products that are repairable - Those which do not put the wellbeing of their staff first what else, add to the list

Lightseekers

Lightseekers is a creative social enterprise that uses photography and storytelling as a platform to learn about and engage with important social issues. They specialise in cross-cultural education and deliver thought provoking programmes to low-income areas, where creative engagement is low and students are likely to experience exclusion and discrimination. How did I get involved with Lightseekers? I started Yoga in 2019 while finishing my doctorate and I met Kajal Nisha Patel, founder of Lightseekers and yoga teacher at Nilu.Yoga. The rest is history. We became friends and collaborators through the Breaking the Silence Initiative at Quetzal. Over the pandemic, we discussed in great details the impacts of poor mental health on wellbeing and physical health. Through our discussion, a project started emerging that will become Ways to Wellbeing - a 9 online session programme providing the tools and knowledge to communities to enhance their wellbeing. She invited me to become a director a...

Restart Party Host profile: Meet Marie

Published on Restart Project My name is Marie Lefebvre. I co-founded with Divya Pujara, Leicester Fixers in 2014 with the support of  Footpaths , a carbon footprint project,  Leicester Hackspace  and Transition Leicester. Other little things about myself, I am not a repairer yet I am absolutely delighted every time an electrical item gets opened and I can see inside it. I am also a Ph.D student at Loughborough University investigating the propensity of users of stuff to repair. I love each and every Restart Party because I always learn something new and meet lovely people.
